Beecher Scott Obituary

Beecher Scott, 96, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Golden Living Center. He was born in Buffaloville, IN on July 3, 1919 to Myrtle (Harris) and Walter Scott.

Beecher was a 1937 graduate of Troy High School, later serving in the Army from 1937-1940 and was a WWII Navy veteran. He was united in marriage to the former Cornelia Wright on June 9, 1945. Beecher had worked for General Electric, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Troy Christian Church and enjoyed being outside, hunting, fishing, canoeing, and gardening.

Surviving are his children, Judith Scott of Miami, OK, Paul Scott (Diana) of Troy, Wayne Scott (Lois) of Tell City, Janet Carlton (Stephen) of Jasper, Lewis Scott of Evanston, and Roger Ward Scott of Lawrence, KS; son-in-law, David Gibbs of Washington, NC; sisters, Olive Smallwood of Bettendorf, IA and Mary Iris Couts of Allendale, IL; 14 grandchildren, 26 great- grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Preceding him in death is his wife, Cornelia Scott in 2009; daughter, Donna Gibbs; son, Bill Scott; brothers, Forrest, Woodfin, Philbert, Oakley and Ira Ashley Scott; sisters; Violet Scott, Hazel Colsch and Fern Giffin; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 11a.m. CST, Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home. Rev. Ray Howard will officiate. Burial will follow in Troy Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-7p.m. And 9-11a.m at at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Troy Christian Church Scholarship Fund.
