Dr. Gene Edwin Ress, 82, passed away December 12, 2017 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
He was born January 4, 1935 to the late Robert and Betty Heck Ress in Tell City, Indiana. He graduated from Tell City High School, Indiana University, and Indiana University Medical School.
Gene was a Captain in the Army during the Korean War. He was a life time member, a choir member, past council member and President of the Evangelical United Church of Christ and a member of the Schweitzer Fest Committee. He was very involved in the musical productions. He was a family physician for 50+ years and a member of the AAFP and AMA. Gene was very active in Tell City High School sports. He was the Tell City School Corporation sports doctor for 50+ years, served on the school board, was in the TCJSHS Athletic Hall of Fame and in the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the American Saddlebred Horse Association and the US Equestrian Federation and was co-owner of the NRG Farm.
Surviving him is his wife, Sally; daughter, Nancy Ress of Tell City; step-children, Paul J. Minto (Linda) of Evansville, Tracy Minto (Jane) of Greenville, NC, and Todd Minto (Holly) of Santa Claus; and several grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Naomi; his son, Glen Ress; and his brother, Marion Ress
There will be a Celebration of Life at 6 pm Sunday, December 17 at the Evangelical United Church of Christ with a private burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Pastor J.T. Hills will officiate. There will be no visitation at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home.
