Earl Damin Obituary

Earl L. Damin, 92, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at his home in Tell City.

He was born March 28, 1924, near Leopold, to the late John E. and Clara (Hardesty) Damin.

Earl was a WWII veteran, enlisting in the U.S. Navy on December 3, 1941 at the age of 17. He served throughout the war in the South Pacific aboard the Battleship Colorado and the troop ship J. Franklin Bell. After the war he returned to his home town of Tell City and married his sweetheart, Emma Louise Gilliland.

Earl worked for General Electric in Tell City, retiring in 1986 after 32 years of service. In retirement, he lived in Plant City, FL for eight years but returned to Tell City in 1998 where he remained for the rest of his life. He enjoyed NASCAR, attending NASCAR racing school at age 70, NBA basketball, taking care of his yard and being with his family.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Louise Burden, Viola Kieser and Edith Oskins; a brother, James (Eddie) Damin.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Emma Damin of Tell City; his children, Dave Damin of Indianapolis, Bob Damin (Sarajane) of Tell City, Mark Damin of Boonville, Phillip Damin (Tammy) of Hilliard, OH, Mike Damin (Faith) of Cannelton and Tanya Walzer (Dan) of Leesburg, VA; a brother, Herbert Damin of Tell City; a sister, Ellanora Schneider of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

A Mass to celebrate his life will be at 10AM Monday, June 13, 2016 at St. Paul Church. There will be no visitation prior. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church or the Salvation Army.
