Edward W. Montgomery 91, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City.

A native of Tell City, IN he was born October 14, 1922, the son of the late Fred and Flora (McDaniel) Montgomery in Evansville, IN. His mother preceded him in death shortly after childbirth.

He was united in marriage at the Evangelical United Church of Christ on June 18, 1949 to Eva Franz, who survives. They have been married for 64 years.

Ed served in the Navy in 1941 after graduating from Tell City High School. He became a pharmacist mate and was assigned to the 2nd Marine Division. He proudly served in the Marines while stationed at Princeton University and in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Ed was a member of VFW Post 2939, American Legion Post 213, Odd Fellow Lodge, and he was a volunteer with the Tell City Fire Dept. for many years. He was also the past president of the Tell City Optimist and Evangelical United Church of Christ church council. Ed was an avid follower of the Chicago Cubs and spent many hours listening, watching or attending Chicago Cubs baseball games. Ed retired from Fredrick’s Sheet Metal in 1984. He never met a stranger as he was very friendly, outgoing, and involved in his community.

Surviving is his wife, Eva Montgomery of Tell City; his daughter, Jane (David) Threlkeld of Punta Gorda, FL; two grandsons, Brad (Holly) Threlkeld of Lafayette, IN and Jeff Threlkeld of Evansville, IN; brothers, Warren Montgomery of South Lebanon, OH and Louis Lee Montgomery of Tell City; sisters, Lucille Thomas of Dothan, AL, Jean Rust, Ann Jones and Sue Montgomery, all of Tell City.

Proceeding him in death is his father, Fred and step-mother, Oprha Montgomery; a sister, Bertha Raney.

Funeral services will be at Noon Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home. Rev. JT Hills will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until service time.

Memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical United Church of Christ or Gentiva Hospice.
