Elbert Emerson Elverd, 90, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 at his home.
He was born in Cannelton on February 17, 1924 to the late James and Edith (Lampkin) Elverd.
Elbert was a WWII Army veteran. He was married on August 14, 1948 to Gladys Ellen VanWinkle, who precedes him in death. Also preceding him in death are siblings, Rose Brown, Mary Aders, Eloise Aders, June Applegate, Pat VanHoosier, Everett, John, Richard and Kenny Elverd; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Elbert was a member of Oak Ridge Pentecostal Church and he enjoyed playing music at Schwartz’s Restaurant on Thursday nights.
Surviving are his children, Kay (Terry) Eastham of Petersburg, IN, Becky (Gary) Ebert of Ferdinand, Billy Joe (Kathy) Elverd and Gregory Elverd all of Bristow and Elbert Rainer of Germany; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM CST Sunday at Oak Ridge Pentecostal Church. Pastor David Hayes will officiate. Burial will follow in Bristow City Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be Saturday from 2:00-8:00PM at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home and Sunday from 9:00AM until service time at the church.
