Johnny F. Bumm, 83, died of cancer at 10:10 a.m. Sunday, August 5, 2012 at his home in New Boston. He was born August 24, 1928 in Louisville, KY to Victoria Bumm. He was married on July 5, 1951 to Lucille Marie Kunkler in the Abbey St. Meinrad Catholic Church. A Korean War veteran, Johnny served as an Army Platoon Seargent from 1951-1953. Working as a heavy equipment operator, he retired after 58 years. Johnny was a member of St. John Chrysosotom Catholic Church, American Legion Post 366, Operators Local 181 and past member of Indiana Sheriffs Association. He enjoyed metal detecting, gardening, reading and playing guitar with his grandsons.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Bumm of New Boston; sons, John “J.R.” Bumm and wife, Bonnie of Evanston, Ronnie “Popeye” Bumm and wofe, Beth of Hoffman Mill; daughters, Judy Gutgsell and husband, Gary and Jeanne Bumm, all of Santa Claus;daughter in law, Alberta Bumm of St. Anthony; nine grandchildren, Jason Bumm of Evansville, Aaron Bumm and wife, Amy of Evanston, Jared and Blake Bumm of Hoffman Mill and Sam and Hunter Bumm of St. Anthony, Angela Knies and husband, Nathan of Evansville, Danielle Benton and husband Nick of Huntingburg and Lacy Kessans and husband, Brad of Rockport; seven great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Morgan Knies, Lily and Allie Kessans and Reagan and Presley Bumm and Trey Daniel Benton.
Preceding him in death is a son, Daniel Ray Bumm; his mother and step father, Victoria and Charles McDufford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. CST on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in New Boston. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the St. Meinrad American Legion Post 336.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home from 2:00-8:00 p.m. CST and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home.
