Lillian O. Laflin,101, passed away in Golden Living Center in Tell City Indiana on February 6, 2017.
She was born in Tell City, Indiana, on December 20, 1915 to Hallick and Mattie (Strahl) Laflin. The family moved to Troy in 1921 where she attended grade school and high school, graduating in 1934 as the valedictorian of her class.
She worked in the wing plant at Servel during WW II, having trained as a riveter bucker, but went on to work in various parts of the plant. After that, she worked at the Tell City General Electric Plant for 31 years retiring in 1977.
She spend a lot of time tracing her family genealogy, one line back to Germany and another to Switzerland. She liked to read, worked in her flowers, travel, bird watch, and spend time with friends and relatives.
Lillian joined as a member of the Rebekah Martha lodge #90 of Newtonville in 1950. She spent a lot of time serving in the different offices, including eight years as the district deputy of district #34. She is also a member of the Troy Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her infant daughter, Esther Oneil Gatchel.
This obituary was self written by Lillian who wished to acknowledge her surviving cousins and very special friends, Donna and Winfield Thomas and their sons and families who made her feel like family.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, February 10, 2017 at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home. Burial will be in Troy City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 PM Thursday and from 9:00-11:00 AM Friday.
