Marian Bruggenschmidt, 86, passed away Monday evening, January 22, 2018, in Evansville, IN.
Marian was born in Cannelton, IN on January 16, 1932, the youngest child of the late Pete and Frances Franzman. Marian grew up in Cannelton, where her family owned and operated Franzman’s Market, a local grocery store. While in high school, Marian served as a cheerleader and clarinetist in the marching band. She was the Class of 1949 Cannelton High School Homecoming Queen.
Marian met her husband, the late James H. Bruggenschmidt, when she was in the 7th grade. Following his service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, they were married on August 21, 1954 at St. Michael’s Church in Cannelton. Marian and Jim resided in Tell City, where they owned and operated Local Beers, Inc., a fixture of the community for several decades.
Marian is survived by her daughter, M. Jane Bruggenschmidt of Evansville, IN, her son, Jim Bruggenschmidt, grandson, Alex Bruggenschmidt and his wife Lindsey, granddaughter, Annie Bruggenschmidt and her mother, Cheryl, and two great-granddaughters, Nora and Hazel Bruggenschmidt, all of Zionsville, IN. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Harold and Elmer Franzman, sister and best friend, Betty Jo Mattingly, and an infant son.
Visitation will be held at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City on Friday, January 26, from 2 to 7 pm and on Saturday, January 27, from 9:00 – 10:00 am . Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Tell City on Saturday, January 28, at 10:30 am, with burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery immediately thereafter.
A Celebration of Marian’s life will take place at the Patio Steakhouse in Cannelton following funeral services.
