Melba June Fortwendel, 82, passed away February 8, 2018 at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, Indiana.
She was born June 18, 1935 to Vernon and Lillie (Turner) Cravens. She was united in marriage to Joseph L. Fortwendel on December 10, 1950.
Melba was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy, IN and had worked at the Tell City Chair Co. for 30 years. She was an avid Cubs and I.U. Basketball fan and she enjoyed her grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, Jody (Linda) Fortwendel of Troy, Angela (Eddie) Jackson of Owensboro, KY, Rick (Barb) Fortwendel of New Boston, Rita (Gary) Smith of Tell City, John Fortwendel of Troy, Sam (Ann) Fortwendel of Troy; sister, Priscilla Asche; grandchildren, Jarrod, Kristi, Carin, Brian, Jamie, Molly, Ashley, Candace, Garett, Nicholas, Sara, Emily, Neil, Matthew, Jennifer, Jeff, Christopher, Ryan, Drew, Elizabeth, Joey, and Scott; many great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Joseph; son, Mark Fortwendel; siblings, Marcella Jacob, Helen Linne, Renna Powers, Sally Schroeder, Earl “Lefty” Cravens, Mary Freeman, and Edith Snyder; daughter-in-law, Mary Fortwendel; and grandchildren, Beth Ann and Todd.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am Saturday, February 10 at St. Pius Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Troy. Visitation will be from 2 – 7 pm Friday, February 9 and from 8:30 – 9:15 am Saturday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home.
