Nellie VanWinkle Obituary

Nellie VanWinkle, 84, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at her home in Dale.

She was born in Bristow, IN on January 4, 1932 to the late Edith (Lampkin) and James Elverd.

Nellie was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and caregiver to many. She was the quiet backbone of her family and never wavered in the face of adversity. She took care of many, many family members, friends and neighbors, always giving and never taking. After she raised her family, Nellie loved working as a CNA at Professional Care Nursing Home in Dale. She had finally found her calling and even after retiring she returned there to visit many of her patients for years. Known as a stellar cook by all, when you stepped into her door she made sure you didn't go hungry. Her chili, fried potatoes, yeast rolls and well, every dish she cooked, were melt in your mouth good. Nellie made each and every holiday special for her family by cooking and cleaning tirelessly until everything was perfect. She was an avid animal lover, loving them all with the same principles as she did her family, that no person or animal should go hungry. She especially loved her little dog, Melody and her cat Rusty. Nellie instilled in her family a love of God and a strict code to live by to keep her family on the straight and narrow path. Family was everything to her and she never wavered in her love for them.

Surviving are her children, Randy VanWinkle of Dale, Tim VanWinkle (Joyce) of Fulda, and Angie Pulley (Bobby) of Dale; six grandchildren, Wes, Todd, Nick, Christy, Jessy and Erika; 13 great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, James E. VanWinkle; sisters, Rose Brown, Mary Aders, Eloise Aders, June Applegate and Pat VanHoosier; brothers, Everett, John, Ray, Kenny, Elbert and Lonnie Elverd.

Funeral services will be at 10AM CST on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home. Pastor David Hayes will officiate. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery. Visitation will be at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home on Friday from 2-8pm CST and Saturday 9-10am CST.
