Opal Harpe Obituary

Opal M. Harpe, 88, passed away Friday, June 10, 2016 at The Timbers of Jasper.

She was born January 23, 1928 to the late Walter and Claudina (Schmidt) Doogs.

Opal was united in marriage on February 23, 1946 to James H. Harpe. She retired after 38 years from General Electric and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary and the Homemakers Club. She enjoyed sewing and piecing quilt tops.

Surviving is her son, Bret Harpe and wife Jeri, of Tell City; sisters, Helen Vogeman of Tell City, Geneva Scott of New Boston, Pauline Hughes of Fayetteville, NC and Eloise Hughes of Grandview; grandchildren, Douglas, Jennifer and Kevin Harpe, Clint Warner (April Keller) and Jonathon James (Laura Kratzer); great-grandchildren, Aubrey Harpe, Aiden Crowe, Devon Keller, Tanner and Mason Warner.

A special thank you to her niece, Brenda Schwartz and family for the love and care in her final years.

Preceding her in death are her husband, James; son, James "Bubba" Harpe; a brother, Floyd William "Bud" Doogs; sister, Rita Simon, Flora Simon and Agnes Rice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1PM CST on Monday, June 13, 2016 at St. Paul Church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation prior to Mass.
