He was born in Melrose Park, IL to the late Edward and Margaret Schutt, and grew up in Lombard, IL.
A graduate of the University of Illinois, Rod retired from General Shale on March 31, 2012, after 42 years of service in the clay pipe and brick industry. He was an avid sportsman, an active volunteer in his church, and with local prison ministry. He was a member of the Cherokee Rod and Gun Club.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Terry Schutt.
Surviving is his wife of 39 years, Donna Taylor Schutt; a brother, Ernie Schutt and wife, Joanne of San Diego, CA; sister-in-law, Kay Rudolph and husband, Tony of Wadesville, IN; two brothers-in-law, Chuck Taylor of New Boston, IN and Homer Taylor and wife, Doris of Evansville, IN; also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held Monday, June 17, 2013 from 9:00-11:00 A.M. at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home with a graveside service following at Greenwood Cemetery. Pastor Daniel Gadbaw will officiate.
