She was born in Joplin, Missouri, October 8, 1931 to the late Elmer H. and Evelyn (Johnson) Dale.
A graduate of Joplin High School in Missouri, she attended a Junior College and received a teaching certificate. She taught in a one room school house for several years, along with being a telephone operator before settling into homemaking. Shirley was united in marriage to Jack Michael Joyce, July 25, 1953. After raising her children, Shirley was a study hall teacher and later, when she moved to Tell City, was the director for Perry County Council on Aging. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 213, serving as past president, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was past president of the Perry County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary,
Shirley is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Jack.; a sister, Dema Lamere; and brothers, Jim, Richard, Howard and Robert Dale.
She is survived by her son, Jim Joyce of Chesapeake, Va; her daughters, Dale Ann Hughes, Noblesville, Sally Marlene Street, Crown Point and Shawn Alana Niswonger, Tell City; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM CST, Friday, January 2, 2015 at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until service time. Rev. Dr. Elmer Shelby will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
