Alfred E. Sweeney, 78, of Tell City, passed away February 15, 2024, at his home in Tell City, IN.
He was born in McLean County, KY, on October 14, 1945, son of the late Jesse and Hazel (Poe) Sweeney. Alfred was united in marriage to Judith (Engelbrecht) Huebschman on June 17, 2006.
Al worked for the Daviess County School System as a custodian for 27 years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Evanston, IN. He enjoyed visiting with family, especially his great-grandchildren, meeting friends at McDonald's, working with his stepson Jay, mowing grass, and watching westerns.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Judith Sweeney; brother, Elmer Sweeney of Owensboro; sister, Betty Sweeney of Owensboro; daughters, Shirley (Michael) Phelps and Vickie Jackson (Frank) both of Owensboro; grandchildren, Brandon and Jason Phelps, and Amber, Josh, and Jamal Sweeney; stepsons, Jeffery Huebschman (Kristina)Elkhart, IN, Dr. Jon Huebschman (Amy) of Charleston, TN, and Jay Huebschman (Lee Ann) Evanston; grandchildren, Katie, Kevin, Krystal, Philip, and Patrick Huebschman; 8 great-grandchildren; along with many friends, and sisters and brothers-in-law.
In addition to his parents, Alfred is preceded in death by his brothers, Gaither, Bobby, and Leonard Sweeney and a sister, Alice Sweeney.
Funeral services will be held at 10am on Monday, February 19, 2024, at St. John's Lutheran Church with burial immediately following in the Church Cemetery. Pastor Steve Shank will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 2pm to 5pm Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home and from 9am until service time on Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Cemetery Fund or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
