Barry Dickman's love of life didn’t come to an end with his death. Barry, 69, passed away at his home in West Lafayette, IN on July 28, 2023, after a courageous battle with ALS. He went peacefully and surrounded by his family who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
A faithful man, Barry loved God and his family above all else. He loved spending weekends, holidays, and annual trips to the beach with his family. He really enjoyed supporting his grandchildren's many talents by attending countless marching band competitions, color guard routines, show choir performances, dance recitals, gymnastics meets, and all their football, soccer, basketball, and baseball games.
Barry leaves behind an incredible legacy of love, light and laughter. He never met a stranger or a heart he did not touch. He entertained many with his remarkable gift for storytelling; laced with humor and perhaps a bit of embellishment. He also loved exceptionally loud music and danced everywhere - living rooms, kitchens, grocery store aisles, at work, and, of course, in the car.
He was born August 7, 1953, in Tell City, IN, the son of Francis and Velma (Kleaving) Dickman. He was united in marriage to Rita Jarvis on June 12, 1976.
Barry graduated from Tell City High School in 1971 and went on to earn his associate degree in business from Sullivan Business College. He worked as a recovery supervisor for American General Finance, from where he retired after 28 years.
Survivors are his wife of 47 years, Rita Dickman; children, Kelly Bockelman (Tim), Jenni Hendrickson (Ben), and Amanda Dickman; 6 grandchildren, Madi (Carson Garcia), Jay, Kylie, Kadence, Lexi, and Ethan; siblings, Mike Dickman, Joe Dickman, Debbie Foster, Trish Kleiser, and Tim Dickman.
In addition to his parents, Barry was preceded in death by his siblings, Sharon Conner, Gene Dickman, and Leroy Dickman.
Visitation will be held at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City, IN, on Saturday August 5th from 2:00pm - 6:30pm followed by a funeral service at 6:30pm.
