Benjamin Ransome Jr. Obituary

Benjamin F. “Ben” Ransome Jr., 97, of Tell City, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Oakwood Health Campus.


He was born on January 6, 1927, near German Ridge in Branchville, IN, to the late Benjamin F. and Effie (Roberson) Ransome Sr.


Ben was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Briggeman in 1946, and they shared more than 50 years together before her passing in 2000.


He retired from General Electric after 42 years of service as a machinist. Ben was a member of the Ohio Valley Fox Hunters Association and the Branchville Conservation Club. He served as a Republican Precinct Committeeman and was on the Board of Trustees for the formation of the New Perry Central School. Ben enjoyed coaching little league baseball and was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan.


Surviving are his children, Dianna Wetzel (Bob) of Santa Claus, Bob Ransome (Brenda) of Avon, IN, and Wayne Ransome (Faye) of Huntingburg; his companion and caretaker, Melba Ayer; grandchildren, Angela Lagrange, Tim Ransome, Chad Alvey, Amy Cline, Lindsey Ransome, Marla Stratman, Sara Piper, and Josh Wetzel; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.


In addition to his parents Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ransome, a son, Ronnie Ransome and his siblings, Shelbie Ransom, Barbara Perkins, Addie Wilber, James Ransome, and Bessie Ransome.


Funeral services will be held at 12pm on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Alvey officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.


Visitation will be from 11am to 12pm on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the funeral home.


Memorial contributions may be made to the Horton Cemetery.
