Bob Adkins, 90, of Tell City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Oakwood Health Campus.
He was born in Clinton County, Indiana on October 13, 1935, the son of the late Harry S. and Wanda (Swank) Adkins. Bob grew up on his family’s farms in Miami County, Indiana, where his lifelong work ethic was first established.
Bob was a graduate of Twelve Mile High School and briefly attended Ball State University. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Marcia Young, on January, 13, 1955, until her passing in 1973. He later married Carolyn Luecke on July 6, 1974, and together they shared 49 years of marriage until her passing in 2024.
Bob was a longtime member of the local banking industry having moved his young family to Tell City in 1967 to work at Tell City Federal Savings and Loan, which later became Regional Federal. Bob was always looking for business opportunities and owned and operated a few local establishments, including the Bettinger Potato Chip Company and Duke and Edna’s Dress Shop. Later, he entered into several ventures with his favorite business partner, his late brother-in-law, Curt King. Bob also sold real estate after his retirement from Regional Federal in 1992. He was involved locally with the Jaycees, the Kiwanis Club and the Masonic Lodge. He also spent several years singing bass in a local Barbershop Quartet. Bob formerly attended the Evangelical United Church of Christ and was a current member of St. Paul Catholic Church, having converted to Catholicism in 2025.
Bob had a passion for golf and was a longtime member of the Hoosier Heights Country Club in Tell City. He became a snowbird in 1998, spending the winters in Sebring, Florida where he also enjoyed golfing, a good card game, an occasional beer, and sitting in a lawn chair visiting with other Midwesterners escaping the harsh winter weather for Florida’s milder climate. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and his favorite non-human, his late granddog Percy.
Survivors include his children, Sabrina Woolley (Jeff) of Tell City, Tierney Robinson (Wayne) of Logansport, Indiana, Weston Adkins (Tina) of Lakeland, Florida, and Aaron Adkins (Sibbie) of Owensboro, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Lori Jochem, Jennifer Kellems, Ivy Young, Logan McManaway, Athena McCarty, Alicia Justice, Leah Adkins, and Lauren Sabogal; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents and his first and second wives, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Adkins, his sister, Mona Costello, and a great grandson, Joseph Jochem.
Bob’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of his service on Thursday, May 28 at the funeral home.
