C. Hilbert VanWinkle, 87, passed away Sunday June 5, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Bristow, Indiana, he was the son of the late William and Glessie (Beard) VanWinkle. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline (Patmore) VanWinkle on July 3, 1953, who preceded in death on December 9, 2003.
Charles started working in the coal mines of Perry County at the young age of 16. He also worked at Woodcrafters for 20 years and North American Products for 35 years.
Hilbert was the name everyone knew him by. He was a very devoted father, avid deer hunter, mechanic, carpenter, and all around build it fix it person. If he couldn't build it or fix it nobody could. He enjoyed cutting firewood with his brother Bob, children, nephew and friends. He also enjoyed mowing his large yard of grass and working in his garden which he was always sharing with his friends and neighbors.
Survivors include his children; Russell (Lavonne) VanWinkle, Cathy (Perry) Tedrow; Grandchildren, Christopher (Lamanda) VanWinkle, Charles Patrick (Cassandra) VanWinkle; a brother, Robert VanWinkle; great grandchildren Aliyah, Garett, Jason and Hank VanWinkle, Landyn Adkins, Madelyn Keown, Lukas Adkins.
In addition to his parents and his wife Jacqueline, he is preceded in death by his siblings, James, Radie, Seddie, Gladys Elverd, Dorothy Hayes and Nelly Mullen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home with Pastor David Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Bristow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:00pm to 7:00pm Wednesday and 9:00am to 10:00am Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bristow Cemetery Association.
