Calvin L. Puertzer, 89, passed away on September 6, 2023, at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City, IN.
A native of Evanston, he was born on April 13, 1934, the son of Gerhard and Hulda V. (Racine) Puertzer. Calvin was united in marriage to Shirley J. Hoffhaus on August 13, 1966, and together they shared 40 years.
He was a 1952 graduate of Chrisney High School and in January of 1956 he joined the United States Army. After returning home from serving our country he had worked at Tell City Chair for 24 years and went on to retire from Schwab Safe after 14 years of service. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, fishing and watching the St. Louis Cardinals, IU basketball and Indianapolis Colts.
Survivors include his daughter, Jean (Chris Southard) Miller of Tell City; son Jerry (Jennifer) Puertzer of Evanston; sister, Wilma Jane Schultz-Gibson of Evansville; brother, Jim Puertzer of Evansville; three grandchildren, Josh (Keeley) Puertzer, Adam (Cassandra) Puertzer and Tony (Grace Kreilein) Miller; and two great-grandchildren, Marlee and Lettie Puertzer.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother Clyde Puertzer in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at St. John's Lutheran Church with burial immediately following in the Church Cemetery. Pastor Steve Shank will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 3pm to 7pm Friday, September 8, 2023, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home and from 9am to 10am on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at St. John's Lutheran Church.
