Clara Berger Obituary

Clara Berger, 92, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Deaconess VNA Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville.

She was born October 16, 1923, the youngest of 8 children, to the late Paul and Catherine (Schneider) Schmidt.

Clara was united in marriage on June 27, 1949 to Virgil Berger. They were married for 42 years. She retired 1986 from General Electric after 44 years. She was a member of St. Paul Church and the VFW Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing euchre and traveling.

Survivors include two daughters, Virgilee Jackson and husband, Forrest Kevin, of Boonville and Frances Berger of Tell City, a son, Paul Berger and wife, Sandy, of Cannelton; four grandchildren, Eugenia Retter (Robert), Deborah Jackson, Jefferson Jackson (Mandy) and Brandon Berger; three great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Kevin Retter and Aubrey Jackson; and many nieces and nephews, including niece, Clara Kress, of Tell City, who helped care for her.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Virgil Berger; sisters, Claudia Doogs, Natahlia Schmidt, Flora Morton, Edna Payne, Helen Schmidt, Pauline Kress, and Evelyn Wheatley Luecke.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am CST Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis Duvelius will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-7pm and Wednesday from 8:30-9:30am.
