Daniel Cole Obituary

Daniel “Dan” Cole, 82, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis, holding the hand of his beloved daughter.

Born on May 6, 1944, Dan was the son of the late Kenneth Dale and Juanita (Hall) Cole.

A 1962 graduate of Southern Local High School, Dan went on to serve his country in the United States Army. He carried that same dedication and strong work ethic throughout his life and career.

On June 28, 1981, Dan married the love of his life, Pat (Patti) Kendall. Together, they shared 40 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, companionship, and cherished memories before her passing in 2022.

Dan spent more than 40 years working as a lab technician at Century Aluminum, formerly NSA, until his retirement. He was known for his quiet strength, dependability, and deep devotion to his family.

More than anything, Dan’s greatest joy in life was being “Pop Pop” to his granddaughter, Kendall. He was so incredibly proud of Blair, Breanne and Kendall. Caring for them was always his top priority and truly his favorite pastime. Whether it was showing up, helping out, spending time together, or simply being present, Dan found his greatest fulfillment in taking care of the people he loved.

Dan also greatly enjoyed spending time at Everbody's Fun & Fitness Center, where he looked forward to chair yoga, making new friends, and working with his trainer, Russ. The friendships and sense of community he found there became a special part of his daily life.

The family would also like to recognize Linda for her friendship, kindness, and the many ways she helped Dan remain active and connected to the community.”

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Breanne Walsh (Blair) of Tell City; his beloved granddaughter, Kendall Walsh; siblings, David (Pat) Cole of Great Falls, Virginia, Dennis Cole of Bristow, Margaret Cole of Tell City, and Louise (Dan) Arnold of Fairmont, West Virginia; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Pat, Dan was preceded in death by his siblings, Dale Cole and Nancy Hart.

Dan’s funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home, with burial to follow at New Cliff Cemetery in Cannelton.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Movement Matters, a nonprofit that provides exercise opportunities for adults with disabilities, or Redemption Church.
