Danny D. VanWinkle

Danny David VanWinkle, 79, of Cannelton, Indiana, passed away on August 17, 2026, at his home.

He was born on January 21, 1947, to the late John and Maude (Vanhoosier) VanWinkle. Danny married Manette Rudolph on November 30, 1991. Together, they shared 34 years of marriage.

Danny worked in maintenance at St. Meinrad Archabbey for more than 30 years before retiring in 2009. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 142 in Cannelton and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Branchville.

Danny enjoyed staying busy and spending his free time outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and camping. He was a fan of the Colts football and IU basketball. He also appreciated a good cold beverage and time spent relaxing with family and friends.

Danny was a longtime resident of the area and was known to enjoy life in his own way. Whether he was outdoors hunting or fishing, spending a day camping, playing a round of golf, or watching a ball game, he made time for the activities he enjoyed.

Danny is survived by his wife, Manette VanWinkle; his children, Rick (Neilecia) VanWinkle of Tell City, Kelly Alvey of Tell City, and John (Tiffany) VanWinkle of Chandler. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Cody, Keisha, Amber, Montana, Christopher, Ashley, Blair, Gage, Natalie, Vanity, Chloe, Landon, and Zane; and six great-grandchildren, Dayton, Myanna, Kailynn, Brynlee, Jaxx, and Hazeleigh.

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Morgan, his siblings, Daisy Rivera, Faye Elverd, Carol Dean VanWinkle, Glenn VanWinkle, and Clarence VanWinkle; and three great-grandchildren, Hennessy, Myles, and Kingston.

Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home, with visitation from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cannelton American Legion post 142.
