David “Red” Faulkenberg, 72, of Grandview, IN, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Red was born in Tell City, IN, on October 19, 1953, to Elmer and Sue (Freeman) Faulkenberg.
A 1971 graduate of Tell City High School, he attended the University of Southern Indiana for two years, majoring in business administration. On August 16, 1975, he married the love of his life, Shirley “Moody” Mattingly.
Red worked in the coal mines for Foertsch Construction and later at United Mineral, where he retired as a superintendent after 42 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed hunting and had a lifelong passion for running heavy equipment. Some of his happiest moments were spent with his grandsons—hunting, surveying, and sharing Saturday morning breakfasts together.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley “Moody” Faulkenberg; his mother, Sue Faulkenberg of Tell City; his children, Allison (Seth) Durnil of Grandview and David (Wesley) Faulkenberg of Chicago; siblings, Michael (Marcie) Faulkenberg of Ellettsville, Bruce (Mary) Faulkenberg of Boonville, Sheila Gaynor of Tell City, and Mark (Alyssa) Faulkenberg of Texas; and his four grandchildren, Mason, Nolan, Haden, and Abram.
Red was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Faulkenberg.
Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home, with burial to follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from noon until service time.
