Debra Scherer Obituary

Debra Kaye Scherer, 68, of New Boston, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.


She was born in Evansville, Indiana, on July 19, 1955, the daughter of Carl Schwindel and Connie (Paulin) Bolin. Debbie was a 1973 graduate of Heritage Hills High School. She was united in marriage to Michael Scherer on September 29, 1973, and together they shared 50 wonderful years together.


She was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ and Spencer County Habitat for Humanity in which she held the role of President. Debbie retired from Abbey Press after 40 years of service. She enjoyed her dogs, IU basketball, Notre Dame and Colts football, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and all Heritage Hills sports. She loved doing anything outdoors, working in her garden, traveling and spending time with her family at the lake.


Survivors include her mother and stepfather Connie (Kenny) Bolin of Tell City; her husband, Mike Scherer of New Boston; her children: Stacey (Roger) Lawalin of Lamar, Megan (Sam) Rothgerber of Louisville, Eric (Sara) Scherer of Evanston; her siblings, Carlene (Dan) Tyring of Washington, IN, Joanie Walls of Etowah, TN, Karen (Larry) Beier of St. Meinrad, IN, Mike Schwindel, of Evanston, IN, Carl (Dana) Schwindel, Jr. of Etowah, TN, Pat (BJ) Stallman of Evanston, IN; stepsiblings, Dennis (Mo) Lambeck of St. Meinrad, IN, Rick (Angela) Lambeck of Tell City IN; grandchildren, Breyan Underhill, Alyssa Bolen, Ashton Rothgerber, Chloe Rothgerber and Owen Rothgerber; and great-grandchildren, Paisley Devillez and Adaelynn Ayer.


Debbie was preceded in death by her father Carl Schwindel and stepmother Edna (Hessig) Lambeck and a stepsister, Carol Egloff.


Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home with Pastor Derek Roe officiating. Burial will be in Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery in Fulda.


Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023, and 9:00 a.m. to service time on Saturday at the funeral home.


Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ or Spencer County Habitat for Humanity.
