Dorothy Newton Starkey, 90, passed away December 8, 2022. She was born on September 2, 1932, in Harrison County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Virgil and Elizabeth (McCoy) Scheler. She grew up in Derby Indiana and loved it there. Derby is where Dorothy made many lifelong friends. At the age of 18, on June 16, 1951, she married Bernard Newton from Hawesville, Ky. They were married until his death in April of 1985. She later married Gary Starkey on November 19, 2005, whom she had known since high school. Dorothy enjoyed taking rides, especially to Derby and spending time with family and friends, and dancing. She was formerly employed at Coast to Coast and Dauby's Hardware.
Surviving are her husband, Gary Starkey of Tell City; her sons Mark Newton (Jackie Bivens) of Derby and Terry (Darlene) Newton of Tell City; daughter-in-law, Peggy Newton of Rocky Point; step-children, Phillip Starkey, Stephen Starkey, Tracy Stuteville, and Jon Starkey; grandchildren, Leah (Justin) Riley, Emily (Nick) Knight, Brad (Brandy) Newton, John Mark (Audrey) Newton, Stephanie (Blake Kennedy) Newton, Chris Newton, and Eric (Nicole) Newton; 3 step-grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; first husband, Bernard Newton; son Mike Newton; sisters, Ann George and Ruth Brown; brother Morris Scheler; 3 nieces; 2 nephews; and her special great-granddaughter, Bria Glen Newton.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Paul Alvey officiating.
