Dottie McClellan

Dorothy “Dottie” McClellan, 81, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Norton Hospital. She was born on March 4, 1943, in Balltown, KY, to the late Earl and Ursia (Mattingly) Whitehouse.

Dottie was united in marriage to John “Red” McClellan on April 30, 1966, and they shared 51 years together before his passing in 2017. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, canning, cooking, gaming, and raising her “kids”, while babysitting Cloverport.

“When I die bury me deep. Put a jug of molasses at my head and my feet. Two biscuits at my head and I'll sop my way to the promise land.”

Surviving are her children, Beth Probus (John) of Henderson, KY, and Erika Atwood (Lewis) of Cloverport ,KY; grandchildren, Drew Probus, Jacob Probus, Allie Poehlein (Alex), Lauren Probus (Adam Cobb), Brandon Atwood (Carissa), Jacob “Little J” Probus, Colson Atwood, Evelyn Poehlein +1; and bonus great-grandkids, Anthony Cobb, Alexis Cobb, and Mia Cobb.

In addition to her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, John “Red” McClellan, and her siblings, Jamesetta Stayton, Pauline Alvey, and Joe Whitehouse.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at St. Rose of Lima with Fr. John Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in St. Rose Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Monday September 30, 2024, from 4pm to 7pm and on Tuesday from 9am and until service time at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in memory of Dottie McClellan.
