Ernest “Ernie” W. Graybill, 94, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Oakwood Health Campus, Tell City, IN.
Ernie was born on October 31, 1928, in Cannelton, the son of John and Nellie (Harding) Graybill. He was united in marriage to Barbara Leinenbach on June 27, 1959, and they spent 64 wonderful years together.
After graduating from Cannelton High School in 1946, Ernie then went on to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corp. Once out of the military he worked at Tell City News for over 25 years. He co-owned and started the Focus Newspaper, and owned and operated several other companies including the following, Hardin-Graybill Printing, Graybill Pets in Cannelton, Custom Graphics Printing, JCPenney Catalog Store, and Custom Enterprises. He also worked for Nussmeier Printing and Engraving in Evansville, IN. Ernie raised and sold parakeets for many years. He enjoyed IU basketball, woodworking, replica cars, and was an avid coin collector.
Ernie was a member of the American Legion and was a founding member of the Perry County Coon Club.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Graybill; daughters, Lynn (Graybill) Zogopoulos of Southport, NC, and Karen Graybill (Brent Lain) of St. Croix; his sister, Frances Graybill of Tell City; grandchildren, Erica Maxey (Kelly), Bradley Zogopoulos, Brock Zogopoulos, and Neil Zogopoulos (Chelsea); and great-granddaughter, Amelia Rae Maxey.
Per Ernie's request, funeral services will be private.
