Genell (James) Kanzler

Oma Genell Kanzler, 85, passed away December 6, 2022, at Jasper Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 31, 1937, in Chrisney, Indiana, daughter of the late Carl and Eloise (Crafton) James. She was a 1955 graduate of Chrisney High School. Genell was united in marriage on September 6, 1958, to George “Fred” Kanzler. Genell worked at Swift in Evansville where she first met Fred. She also worked at the Spencer County ASCS office and then devoted her life to raising her two daughters, opting to stay home with them. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Chrisney and was a member of the Women's Guild. Genell enjoyed her family time along with sewing, crafts, baking, genealogy, and gardening.

Surviving is her husband George “Fred” Kanzler; her children, Julie (John) Benningfield of Santa Claus and Joni Kanzler (Mark Schroeder) of South Bend; sister, Sandy Tullis of Santa Claus; 3 grandchildren, Shawn Benningfield, Matt Benningfield, and Brittany Sollman; 8 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents and her brothers, Dean, Bob, and Dick James.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Peter's United Church of Christ Cemetery, in Lamar. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 1:00pm on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City, IN.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln Heritage Public Library in Dale, IN.
