Gilbert Harold Spindler, 92, passed away November 1, 2021 at his home.
He was born February 27, 1929 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Mathew and Margaret Spindler. He married Patricia Jean Lawrence on July 20, 1948.
In 1960 Gil and Pat started Wesselman's Coffee Shop in Evansville, IN. Pat and Gil moved to Tell City in 1965 and were owners and operators of the Lincoln Trail Motel and restaurant from 1965 to 1977. They then purchased Footsteps Family Shoes and later opened P.G's Family Shoe Store.
Gil was a member of St. Joseph's Men's Club in Evansville, IN., Optimist, Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus and the Moose. He currently the president of the Perry County Alcoholic Beverage Commission. He was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy, IN.
He enjoyed watching wrestling, going out to eat, playing euchre and sitting on his porch smoking cigars.
Survivors include his son, Danny Michael Spindler (Debra) of Evansville, IN, daughter, Linda Diane Mattingly of Tell City, IN, special son-in-law, Marvin “Bub” Mattingly, 3 grandchildren, Brandi Mattingly Donan (Eric) of Chattanooga, TN, Brian Mathew Mattingly of Centerville, MI, and Chastity Spindler Axton (Nathan) of Wadesville, IN and 2 great grandchildren, Ean Donan and Emma Axton.
In addition to his parents and his wife of 67 years, Patricia, he is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Danielle Michelle Spindler-Stokes, (Christian).
Services will be 10:00 am Friday, November 5, 2021 at St. Pius Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Evansville, IN
Visitation will be from 2:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday and from and from 8:30am to 9:15am Friday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to Children of Wounded Warriors or Citizen's Police Academy Alumni.
