Hazel Fortwendel

Hazel Iliff Fortwendel, 93, passed away on October 27, 2023, at Oakwood Healthcare Campus in Tell City, IN.

She was born January 13, 1930, in Troy, IN, to Leroy and Olive (Goffinet) Howe.

Hazel was a 1948 Troy High School graduate. She was united in marriage to Cletus F. Fortwendel on August 24, 1948.

Hazel was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting and watching Purdue basketball. Hazel loved her family and the time she spent with them.

Hazel is survived by her children, Cletus Fortwendel Jr. (Sarah), Jerry Fortwendel (Susie), Tony Fortwendel (Angie), Annette Doherty (Kevin), Martha Cutrell (Randy), Tim Fortwendel (Sherri). Eight Grandchildren, Kevin Fortwendel, Amy Carter (Jeff), Philip Fortwendel (Hannah), Steve Fortwendel (Tasa), Ryan Fortwendel (Jake), Trevor Traphagen (Dusty), Corey Fortwendel (Kara), Jalynn Fortwendel, and 7 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Cletus Fortwendel Sr, and a brother, Conrad Howe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy, IN, with Fr. Tony Hollowell officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 30, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Tuesday from 8:00 to 9:15 AM at the funeral home.
