Irene Krieg

Irene Evelyne Krieg passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Willowdale Village in Dale, Indiana. She was 103½ years old—as she would proudly tell you.

Born on September 19, 1922, in Perry County "Dixon Valley", Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Nora (Miles) Wheeler.

Irene was a 1939 graduate of Bristow High School. She went on to work for Whirlpool in Evansville, where she dedicated many years before retiring. She was a member of Local 808. Independent and determined, Irene kept her driver’s license until the age of 98. In her earlier years, she was a devoted Catholic and attended St. Anthony Catholic Church in Evansville, where she lived for 42 years. She also found enjoyment in bowling and watching baseball.

She is survived by her son, Danny Joe “Dan” Krieg of Bristow; her sister, Priscilla Wheeler-Miles of Augusta, Georgia; grandchildren, D.J. Krieg of Ferdinand and Steven Krieg (Chelsea) of Santa Claus as well as 13 others; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her sons, Larry, Allen, Steven, Randy Krieg; her daughter, Linda Gee; her siblings, William Wheeler, John Wheeler, James Wheeler, Homer Lee Wheeler, Nancy Huebschman, Nelson Wheeler, Dorothy Franchville, Mary Lasiter, and June Rogers; and two grandchildren, Randy Jr. and Keri Krieg.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Evansville, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
