Jerry W. Fischer, 84, of Tell City, Indiana, passed away on September 26, 2026, at his home in Tell City. He was born on November 2, 1941, in Evansville, Indiana, to the late Stanley and Pauline Fischer.
Jerry graduated from Tell City High School in 1960 and went on to become a well-known and respected businessman in the community. He was the owner of Fischer Home Center, Culligan, and Fischer Rentals. He also served on the Citizens National Bank board and the Tell City High School School Board. Jerry was a man who enjoyed staying busy and was always interested in the community around him.
One of Jerry’s greatest interests was aviation, and he proudly obtained his pilot’s license. He also enjoyed being behind the wheel and loved taking his Jeep out on the back roads of Perry County. Whether he was simply enjoying a drive through the countryside, taking a road trip, or heading out on one of the many vacations he shared with his family, Jerry enjoyed the journey as much as the destination. Those drives and travels created many special memories for him and the people he loved.
Jerry was united in marriage to Kate Schaefer on August 19, 1961, and together they shared 65 years of marriage. His family was a very important part of his life, and he will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Kate Fischer; his children, Patrick (Lesa) Fischer and Sophia (Joe) Ettensohn, both of Tell City, his grandchildren, Travis (Kate) Fischer, Lauren (Brandon) Zellers, Drew, Emma Kate, Gabrielle, and Ben Ettensohn; and his great-grandchildren, Grace Fischer, Kaiser, Eloise, Norah, and Wrenley Zellers. siblings, Donna (Pat) McNulty of Owensboro, Kentucky; Sharon Little of Oklahoma; Janet (Dick) Veeck of Evanston; Betty (J.T.) Hagedorn of Evanston; Richard (Lahna) Fischer of Tell City; and Teresa (Keith) Lutgring of Evanston.
Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Scott Fischer; his parents, Stanley and Pauline Fischer; his sister, Diann Williams; and his brother-in-law, Ronnie Williams.
