Joseph E. Butler, Sr., 81, of Tell City, IN, passed away Friday, December 27, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN.
He was born in Hardinsburg, KY, on July 15, 1943, son of the late Estell and Marie (Clark) Butler. Joe married Marie Elizabeth McFarling on September 21, 1962. They shared 58 years together before her passing in 2020. Joe graduated from Breckinridge County High School and went on to obtain his associate degree in mechanical maintenance, and work for Alcoa. He was a member of the Tell City First Church of the Nazarene, who enjoyed bowling, race car driving, and crossword puzzles. Joe never met a stranger and always showed love and kindness.
He is survived by his children, Mary Jo (Tim) Carter of Chrisney, IN, Brenda Gayle Terry of Owensboro, KY, Debbie Butler of Cecilia, KY, and Joseph E. (Faith) Butler, Jr. of Owensboro, KY; siblings, Mary Alice Oliver of Bardstown, KY, Helen Butler of Elizabethtown, KY, and Lola Morgan of Cecilia, KY; 14 grandchildren, April (Jason) Noland, Erica (Donald) Gaither, Ashley (Jordan) Dugas, Erick Jones, Tommy (Pamela) Terry, Cassi Terry, Dusty Terry, Derick (Dakota) Terry, Anna Kerns, JD Evrard, Marissa Butler, Kate Butler, Zachary Butler, and Joey Butler; 30 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and his beloved dog Angel.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Butler; son, Ricky Allen Butler; great grandsons, Liam Dugas and Darius Watkins; and his son-in-law, Matt Terry.
Funeral services will be at 1:00pm on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Messick officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday, December 29, 2024, and from 11:00am until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Tell City First Church of the Nazarene.
