Kenneth Dale Mulzer Sr., 79, of Santa Claus, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025.
He was born August 22, 1945, to the late Arnold W. and Jane A. (Cole) Mulzer.
Ken was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected business leader. He shared 56 wonderful years of marriage with his loving wife, Dee—a partnership grounded in love, respect, and unwavering support. Together, they built a life filled with joy, family, and faith.
Known for his silly side and generous spirit, Kenny never knew a stranger. He had a deep appreciation for both adventure and the simple pleasures in life. He enjoyed traveling in an RV around the country and world with his wife and friends, exploring new places and making memories along the way. In addition to his travels, Ken found joy in the everyday things—motorcycle riding, flying, waterskiing, washing cars, mowing, and sitting on the front porch watching the birds.
A graduate of Tell City High School and Valparaiso University, he combined education with hard work to help grow Mulzer Crushed Stone into a successful family business. His efforts made the company a cornerstone of the community and a point of pride for his family. Ken also served as Chairman of the National Stone Association and the Indiana Mineral Aggregates Association, where his leadership and advocacy shaped the future of the industry. A servant leader at heart, Ken always put others first—whether in business, family, or community. In recognition of his selfless nature and deep commitment to others, he was honored with the Humanitarian of the Year award by the Optimist Club.
He is survived by his wife, Dee; his son, Ken Jr. (DeNae) Mulzer of Santa Claus, his daughters, Pam (Jim) Johnston of Denver, and Kristin of Savannah; and six beloved grandchildren, Caleb, Kerragan, Kenley, Henry, Graham, and Maeve; and his sister, Roberta Smith of Darmstadt.
In addition to his parents Kenneth was preceded in death by his brothers, Neil Mulzer, Arnold Mulzer, Jr., and James Mulzer.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his home health and nursing home caregivers, as well as Gentiva Hospice for their expert care, compassion, and support during Ken’s final days.
Kenneth’s life was a reflection of love, integrity, humor, and quiet strength. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the business he helped build, and the many lives he touched with his kindness and generosity.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, April 28, at 5:00 p.m. at Santa Claus Christian Church, with visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. All who knew and loved Ken are welcome to attend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Historic Santa Claus Campground or the Alzheimer’s Association.
