Kenneth Simpson Obituary

Kenneth Leo Simpson, 77, of Tell City, Indiana, passed away at his home on April 4, 2026, surrounded by his family.

He was born on November 14, 1948, in Evansville, Indiana, to Leo Kenneth and Goldie (Anderson) Simpson. He was 10 minutes younger than Prince Charles of England. Mom always said "Protocol, you know." His grandparents were William and Bertha (Jarboe) Simpson and Sam and Gertrude (Sprinkle) Anderson.

Kenny was raised in Tell City and graduated from Tell City High School in 1967 where he served as President of his senior class. He went on to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, graduating in 1971 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served as President of his senior class at Rose also. He worked at numerous types of jobs but was primarily an engineer most of his adult life. He founded the engineering firm Engineer Associates in 1990 in Fishers, Indiana, and worked as a consulting engineer for over 35 years, being licensed as a professional engineer in Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. He did site planning, building design and general civil engineering work. He moved the business from Fishers to Tell City in 2009 to be closer to family.

Most certainly one of his best decisions was to marry Sandra Thomas on February 15, 1997. He picked up three wonderful stepchildren, Jennifer, David and Steven Theriot in the process. They then had three more sons, Leo, Thomas and Will. He loved his family deeply and took great pride in providing such a wonderful life for them. Nothing gave him greater joy.

Kenny was active in the community, having founded the Tell City Spring Soccer League in 2010 and running the league for 11 years. Along with his wife Sandra, he also ran and coached the Tell City Junior High Soccer team when his three younger sons played soccer. He was an active supporter of Tell City sports.

Kenny enjoyed life and the many friends he made through the years. It was always enjoyable to simply go to the store or elsewhere and see friends or to do engineering projects with his clients. One of his greatest joys was simply spending time with his wife Sandra, enjoying Jennifer's plays and choir concerts, and cheering on all of his sons in their activities including Football, Cross Country, Track, and Swimming and later, visiting them in college at Purdue. Most people would say Kenny loved to talk, but what he loved was asking people about their lives, families, and interests, then later recalling these details when seeing them again.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Goldie Simpson, his brother Steve Simpson (Yvonne), a decorated Vietnam War serviceman, and his father and mother-in-law, Gerald and Jean (Goffinet) Thomas.

Kenny is survived by his wife Sandra, and their children Jennifer, David, Steven, Leo, Thomas, and Will. Also, he is survived by brothers Bill (Connie) Simpson, and Richard (Brenda) Simpson (the fun brother), Sandra's siblings and their spouses, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

We extend special thanks for their loving care to the Oncology Department at PCMH- our niece Laura, Tiffany, Shannon, Jaime, Susie, Val, and Kendra, as well as phlebotomists- Wendy, Eva, and Ty, and to Dr. Maheshwari for his knowledge, wisdom, and caring heart.
