Laverna Gayer Obituary

Laverna Amelia Gayer, 96, passed away April 25, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family.

Born May 12, 1923 in Lamar, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Lora Foertsch Schaus and was baptized and confirmed at St. Peters E & R Church at Lamar. She was united in marriage to Quentin Daniel Gayer at St. Peters Church on September 30, 1944.

Laverna was a 1941 graduate of Chrisney High School and Lockyear Business College. She was a former employee of Spencer County Agriculture Office in Rockport and Briggs Employment Office in Evansville.

She is a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Tell City. She loved music, singing in church choirs and cantatas at St. Peters, piecing quilt tops, gardening scrap-booking and spending time with grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Daniel (Shirley) Gayer of Tell City; grandchildren, Tim (Julie) Denu, Kevin Denu, Angela (Bart) Weyer, Melanie (Greg) Shultz, Jennifer (Chad) Alvey, Jason (Ginger Davis) Gayer; great grandchildren, Kelsi and Kayla Denu, Jacob Denu, Chris Weyer, Jerrod and Justin Shultz, Zane, Zoey, Anzley Gayer, Annika Alvey and Grayson Daniel Alvey; great great grandchildren, Alexzander Weyer, Amelia Weyer, Grayson Denu, Elayna Denu and a sister-in-law, Mary Evelyn Gayer Whitcomb.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents is her husband Quentin, her daughter Darlene Ruth Denu, a brother, Warren Schaus and sisters, Ruth Goffinet and Paula Roessler.

Due to current state mandates, services will be private with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Evangelical United Church of Christ.
