LoisMae James Obituary

On Monday, December 16, 2024, LoisMae Marilyn James, 90, passed away peacefully while in hospice care at Greenwood Village South in Greenwood, IN.

Lois was born to Myrtle (Cassidy) and Harry McCoy on November 18, 1934, in Tell City, IN. She grew up on the family farm near Evanston, IN, where her parents owned the McCoy Orchard. Lois cherished her time on the farm, picking peaches and apples, and milking cows. Lois attended elementary school at St. Pius in Troy, IN, and also Cutler School near Evanston, IN. She graduated from Chrisney High School in 1953, where she was known for her kindness and dedication.

On September 20, 1952, Lois married Pastor John Robin James, Jr. in Troy, IN. Family was the cornerstone of their life, and they were blessed with 5 children. She and John shared 47 years together before his passing in 2000.

During her working career Lois was a meat cutter at Kroger and retired after 35 years of dedicated service. She cherished her Christian faith and supported her husband in his role as a pastor at First Baptist Church in Cannelton, IN. Lois was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She also had a few lesser-known hobbies that she enjoyed, including golf, bowling, singing, and sewing. With the help of her mother, Lois became a wonderful baker, making some of the best red velvet cakes, dinner rolls and dumplings. Lois's warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Lois is survived by her son, Harry Gabriel James (Diane); daughter, Angela Mae Pickett (Kenneth); 11 grandchildren, Donald James, Melinda James Schmidt, John Michael James Jr., Christa James, Troy James, Monty Anderson, Kevin Anderson, Kristina Anderson, Brandy James, Kari Pickett Cowan, and Olivia Pickett; 6 great-grandchildren, Quentine, Haiden, Aaliyah, Trenton, Hunter, and Christian; along with several nieces and nephews.
