Madeline Harpenau

Madeline Harpenau, 97, of Tell City, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024, at Memorial Hospital on Jasper, IN.

She was born March 7, 1927, in Sulphur, IN, daughter of the late Alvin and Sella (Wiseman) Eaton.

Madeline was a 1946 graduate of Leavenworth High School. She was united in marriage to Andrew VanConia on April 27, 1946, until his passing in 1973. Madeline was then united in marriage to Merle Harpenau on August 14, 1976, they shared 47 years before his passing in February of this year. During her working career Madeline worked for Commercial Filters. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed square dancing, crafts, seam-stressing, quilting, and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her son-in-law, Mike Harmon of Tell City; stepdaughter, Sharon (Nick) Schneider of Bloomfield; 4 grandchildren, Darren VanConia (Laurie), Thomas Lawalin Jr., Nicole Byrd (Jeremy), and Stacey Brown (Troy); and 9 great-grandchildren, Remington (Kali), Macie, Kylie, Caleb, Jaeden, Jaclyn, Sydney, Xavier, and Nixon.

In addition to her parents, Madeline was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew VanConia; second husband, Merle Harpenau; son, Ronnie VanConia; daughter, Rita Harmon; and 7 siblings.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 3:00 to 7:00pm and on Friday from 9:00 am until service time at the funeral home.
