Magnus Karney, 84, passed away Monday, May 16, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Tell City.
He was born May 14, 1932 to the late Russell and Margaret (Schuetter) Karney. Also preceding him in death are sisters, Helen Howe, Lucille Fendel and infants, Ruth and Margie; brothers, Maurice "Bud", Russell, Charles and Robert Earl Karney.
Mag was married on November 26, 1955 to the former Ruth Hammack, for 60 wonderful years. He had worked for Tell City Chair Co. and later retired from the City of Tell City. A Korean War veteran, Mag served as a Marine and was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 213 and VFW Post 2939. He was also a member of Deer Creek Baptist Church.
Mag enjoyed working, gardening, telling stories, spending time with his family, reading, IU basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals. Known for always handing out candy, Mag was a generous man who just enjoyed helping people.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Karney of Tell City; children, Meg Arnold (Rob) of Austin, TX, Roger Karney of Huntingburg, IN and Holly Rainey (Rusty) of Tell City; five grandchildren, Morgan Carter (Andy), Trent Rainey, Scott Straley, Tim Rainey (Erica) and Tyler Rainey (Breanne); five great-grandchildren, Mason and Jake Carter, Addysen, Hadley and Remington Rainey; brother-in-law, Ken Hammack (Carol); sisters-in-law, Dorothy VanHoosier, Helen Jones, Perk Rothgerber and Sue (Harvey) Harris; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1pm CST on Friday, May 20, 2016 at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Deer Creek Church Cemetery with military rites. Rev. Dr. Elmer Shelby will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8pm and Friday 11am-1pm at the funeral home.
