Mary "Cindy" Stewart Obituary

Mary “Cindy” Stewart passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana at the young age of 76.

Cindy was born on June 14, 1949, in Louisville, Kentucky, to William and Mary (Hagedorn) Stewart, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved brother, David Stewart, and her sister, Terri Daugherty.

Cindy lived her life grounded in a deep and steady Catholic faith, which guided her through life’s joys and challenges. Her faith was a quiet strength (sometimes not so Quiet); something she leaned on daily and held close to her heart.

She was a devoted and hardworking woman throughout her life, spending many years at Tell City Chair, later working at Jasper Plastics, and eventually retiring from Kimball.

One of Cindy’s greatest joys was the Christmas season. She loved everything about it; especially driving around to admire Christmas lights and holiday decorations, taking comfort and joy in the beauty of the season. Over the years, she was also blessed with the constant companionship of her beloved cat(s), who remained faithfully by her side and brought her comfort and companionship throughout her life. Above all else, Cindy cherished her family. They were a constant source of pride, happiness, and joy.

She is survived by her brother’s family, including his widow, Barbara Stewart, and their children, Leah Stewart Dunn and Dr. Aaron Stewart (Anne). She is also survived by her great nieces, Olivia Dunn Hernandez (Rey) and Samantha Stewart, and her great nephews, Doss Dunn (Maria) and Shane Stewart. She leaves behind two great-great nieces, Lana Hernandez and Angelic, and her great-great nephew, Jota.

Cindy is also survived by her sister’s family, including her nephew, Wade (Christy) Schaefer, her niece, Denise Garris, and her great nephews, Blake Gardner, Hayden and Greyson Schaefer and Jeffrey Garris, along with her widowed brother-in-law, Eldon Daugherty.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A funeral service, officiated by Father Luke Waugh, will follow at 12:00 P.M. Burial will take place immediately afterward at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church.
