Merl Goffinet Obituary





Merl Goffinet, 87, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Tell City. He was born in Bandon on August 29, 1926 to the late Edwin and Agnes (Evrard) Goffinet. He was preceded in death by a sister Hazel Flamion.

Merl was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and a lifetime member of Loyal Order of Moose 1424. He worked for Ramsey Construction before becoming a self-employed contractor and retiring in 1986. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, loved his garden and continued his woodworking until his stroke in 2012. He considered one of his greatest achievements as the making of 64 grandfather clocks.

Merl is survived by his wife, Gloria (Faulkenberg) Goffinet of Tell City; children, Linda Brown and husband, Ed, of Bell Buckle, TN and Steve Goffinet and wife, Dinah, of Tell City; four grandchildren, Sonya Webb of Santa Claus, Kimberly Hackel Cantrell (Chris) of Albuquerque, NM, Joshua Henke of Tell City and Trina Goffinet of Ferdinand; four great-grandchildren, Finnegan and Devon Cantrell, Chloe and Bella Henke.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM CST, Thursday, January 16, 2014 at St. Paul Church. Father Dennis Duvelius will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:00-7:00 PM, with a Moose Lodge service at 6:30 and Thursday from 8:30-9:45AM at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Church and Mooseheart.
