Mildred Winter

Mildred “Pidge” (Buchanan) Winter, 77, of Tell City, IN, passed away peacefully November 3, 2023, surrounded by her family.

She was born on April 1, 1946, in Marion County, IN, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred (Woolman) Buchanan. Pidge was united in marriage to Donovon Winter on October 25, 1991, and they shared 27 years together before his death in 2018.

Pidge worked many years managing the Freezer Cafe in Tell City. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, gardening, traveling the country, blogging, and was an avid reader. Her love for reading inspired her to open her own bookstore in Tell City called This and That Books.

Surviving is her daughter, Shannon Terry (Mark); her son, Jon Kleeman (Lisa); her stepchildren, Teresa Elpers (Mike), Jennifer Hackford (Rich), and Jason Winter (Jen); sisters, Dorothy “Dottie” VanWinkle (Mark), Myra “Jean” Marchand; brother, Joseph “Buck” Buchanan; sister-in-law, Wilma “Willie” Buchanan; and her friend Kim “Kimmie” Thomas, that became family; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.

Pidge was preceded in death by her husband, Donovan Winter and three brothers, Harry “Bud” Buchanan, Donald “Boone” Buchanan and Herbert “Herbie” Buchanan.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
