Oris (Kleeman) Carter Obituary

Oris Rebecca (Kleeman) Carter, 81, passed away on October 23, 2024.

She was born on February 16, 1943, in Tell City, daughter of the late Walter and Cecilia (Shaw) Kleeman.

Oris was a 1961 graduate of Tell City High School and held a special bond with her classmates throughout the years. She loved being a cheerleader, and was honored for her cheerleading spirit, along with the 1961 basketball team when they were inducted into the Tell City High School Athletic Hall of Fame on January 28, 2022. Her classmates describe her as unique, funny, happy, appreciative, a live wire, a strong woman, a great friend, most spirited, one in a million, and an inspiration to us all.

During her working career, she worked for the Perry County Road Department in 1961; was the first deputy auditor at the Perry County Court House under Virgil Carter from 1962 to 1969; was the office manager before transitioning into an insurance agent at Western & Southern Life Insurance Company from 1969 to 1983; ran her own business called Personal Touch Wallpaper Hanging and Painting from 1983 to 1990; and went on to retire from Hickory's Custom Carpets in 2005, after 15 years of service.

She was a great cook and loved sharing her food with family, friends and neighbors. She loved her animals, enjoyed nurturing her flower garden, and spending time with her family and friends. Her greatest love was IU basketball, where she could be found cheering them on and helping to coach from her chair. Her favorite vacation spot was being home watching movies.

Oris is survived by her daughter, Nancy Nelson (Ross Davison) of Louisville, KY; siblings, Bob (Ruth) Kleeman of Houston, TX and Joan Lauer of Bloomington, IN; grandchildren, Heather Carter, Trevor Carter (Madison), and Carter Nelson; great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Aysia, Jude, and Scout.

In addition to her parents, Oris was preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Carter; her son, Bob Carter; father of her children, Larry Carter; her sister, Marlene Lautner; and brothers-in-law, Adrian Lauer and Ronnie Lautner.
