Paul Strobel Obituary

Paul J. Strobel, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving daughters holding his hands, on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

 

He was born in Tell City, on September 30, 1940, to Henry and Catherine (Eberle) Strobel, Sr.

 

Paul was a 1958 graduate of Tell City High School. Paul then enlisted with the United States Air Force in 1958. Sending him to Sheppard Air Force base near Wichita Falls Texas to receive education and training to become an aircraft mechanic.

 

Throughout his military career, he was able to visit 39 countries and served in the Vietnam War. In 1967, he was honorably discharged as a missile technician engineer from the United States Air Force.

 

He was united in marriage to Ruth A. Kleaving on April 20, 1968, becoming a family man. At that time, he was working at Tell City Chair Company as an engineer. Paul was a great businessman and started his own independent insurance agency in 1968, Strobel Insurance Agency. In the 1980's, he was a real estate agent for Southern Indiana Realty.

 

He was an avid hunter and raised AKC beagles that he would sell near and far to other hunters. Paul was also an avid photographer, who enjoyed target shooting with his family or just spending time with his family and their dogs, which was his absolute favorite.

 

He was a lifelong member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Knights of Columbus.

 

Paul was among the chosen to place the wreath for the unknown soldier at Arlington National Cemetery by the Honor Flight Committee for Flight #17 on October 5, 2024. His father was the original soldier, representing the State of Indiana, to place the initial wreath in 1921.

 

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Ruth Strobel; daughters, Sue Strobel-Sanders (Dave) and Janet Strobel McFarland (Chris Pate) both of Tell City; granddaughter, Natalie Sanders; and a sister, Carol Dauby (Don) of Tell City.

 

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Marie Strobel and his siblings, Frances O'Brian, Dorothy Ferrando, Mary Rose Birchler, Rita Brockman, Henry Strobel, Jr., and Ann Wirthwein.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Friday, January 17, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Fr. Tony Hollowell will officiate.

 

Visitation will be from 3:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, January 16, 2025, and from 8:30 to 9:30am on Friday at the funeral home.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Perry County Veterans Donation Fund or the Honor Flight of Southern Indiana.

 

The family wishes to thank, Samantha Wilkerson and Toni Kraus for their compassion and care given to Paul as his primary caregivers.
