Ronald Thomasson Obituary

Ronald B. Thomasson, of Tobinsport, Indiana, passed away on September 26, 2026, at his home. He was born on December 16, 1940, in Clover, South Carolina, to the late Wilburn Young and Janie Ethel (Robinson) Thomasson. He graduated from Clover High School and was united in marriage to Mary K. Smith on December 21, 1972. They shared many wonderful years together and built a life centered around family and the things they enjoyed most.

Ron worked in production and manufacturing throughout his career. He began working for Bowaters in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and later worked for Interstate Paper in Brunswick, Georgia, Western Kraft, and Domtar where he started in 1969 and retired in 2006, after 37 dedicated years of service to the company.

Ron enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting. He was an avid hunter who would hunt whatever was in season, often bringing home what he had harvested to become that evening’s dinner. He also enjoyed playing poker and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary K. Thomasson; his children, Debbie (Jeff) Baker of Lewisport, Tammy (Dan) Duncan of Lewisport, Stacy Thomasson of Gatchel, Shawn Goffinet of Tell City, and Maurice (Nancy) Poehlein of Tobinsport; his brother, Freddie (Sara) Thomasson of Richmond Hill, Georgia; his grandchildren, Joshua (April) Jones, Robin (Trula) Jones, Amanda (David) Moore, Alexus Knasel (Zac Collins), Amity (Asher) Etienne, Kaitlyn Poehlein, Callie Poehlein, and Kelsey Poehlein; along with three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brothers, Otis “Tommy” Thomasson, Bobby Thomasson, and Billy Thomasson; his grandson, Steven Thomasson; and his in-laws, Maurice and Marie Smith.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at St. Paul Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Millstone Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Heart to Heart Hospice.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Heart-to-Heart Hospice and all of Ron’s caregivers for the compassionate care, support, and kindness they provided to him and his family.
