Ruth A. (Kleaving) Strobel

Ruth A. Strobel, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving daughters holding her hands on November 22, 2025.

She was born on February 19, 1943, to Cyril and Frieda (Dauby) Kleaving in rural Tell City, IN.

Ruth was a 1961 graduate of Tell City High School. Ruth then moved to Indianapolis becoming secretary to Senator Bainbridge at Indiana Statehouse for 3 years. She then returned to Tell City taking a position as a personal banker at Citizens National Bank.

Shortly after marrying Paul J. Strobel on April 20, 1968, she opened an H&R Block franchise, becoming well known as the “Tax Lady”. Ruth completed and taught numerous tax courses over the years. She was an independent insurance agent for Paul's business Strobel Insurance Agency. Ruth retired from H&R Block in December 2013 after 45 years. Her legacy is being carried on by her daughter, Sue. She raised AKC beagles with her husband and enjoyed visiting and organizing family gatherings. In her later years she loved to do projects with her granddaughter and spend time with her granddogs.

She is survived by her daughters Sue (Dave) Strobel-Sanders, Janet (Chris Pate) Strobel McFarland; granddaughter Natalie Sanders; brother Gilbert (Margie) Kleaving, sisters Esther (Duane) Goffinet, and Glenda (Jerry) Gogel, all of Tell City.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Paul J. Strobel, her daughter Lisa Marie Strobel, and her sister Mary Edith Fortwendel.

Ruth was a beloved resident of Brickyard Healthcare - Lincoln Hills Care Center. Her family has expressed heartfelt appreciation for the compassionate care provided by the dedicated staff of the Station 2 nursing unit. The family also wishes to thank St. Croix Hospice for their kind and compassionate care in Ruth’s final days.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church at 10:00am on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Father Luke Waugh will officiate.

Visitation will be from 3:00pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, and from 8:30 to 9:30am on Wednesday at the funeral home.

In honor of her husband's Paul military service, the family wishes memorial contributions would be made to the Veterans of Perry County or the Honor Flight of Southern Indiana.
