Sam Conner

Samuel Conner, 94, of Cannelton, passed away on August 24, 2022, at his home.

Sam was born in Cannelton on April 20, 1928, to Sadie Schroeder. Sam was raised by his loving grandparents Walter and Olabell Pippin. He was united in marriage on June 12, 1948, to Martha “Gerry” Benningfield. Sam was a graduate of Cannelton High School. He worked as a mail carrier for the postal service. He was a member of the Seventh St Baptist Church. Sam loved the outdoors and being outside. He enjoyed his morning walks, driving around and looking at all the different types of trees and watching the river, gardening, and just had a genuine love for all people.

Sam is survived by daughters, Laurinda VanConey and Rosemond Conner both of Cannelton; brothers, Norman Schroeder of Virginia and James Schroeder of Kokomo; grandchildren, David Conner, Michael VanConey, and Ashley VanConey; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Gavin, Ashton, Brogan, and Cayson.

In addition to his mother, grandparents, and wife Sam was preceded in death by brothers, Herrmann Schroeder, Edgar Conner and Billy Guy Schroeder.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 1:00p.m. at Seventh Street Baptist Church. with Pastor Harold Draper officiating. Burial will follow in New Cliff Cemetery in Cannelton.

Visitation will be Friday, August 26, 2022, from 10:00a.m. to 12:30p.m. at Seventh St Baptist Church in Cannelton, IN.
