Sheilda Rae Schmitt, 78, passed away January 14, 2022 at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City. Her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Jim Schmitt was by her side.
Sheilda was born September 15, 1943 in Yankeetown, Indiana, the daughter of the late Robert and Helen (Lott) McCormick. She was a graduate of Castle High School class of 1961 and married Jim Schmitt on August 4, 1962. She retired from the Evangelical United Church of Christ in 2018 after 42 years as the church secretary. Sheilda was a devoted mother and grandmother and absolutely loved Christmas and getting together whenever possible with family and friends. She could always be counted on when anyone needed anything. She loved to travel, be with her grandchildren, read, stamping of original cards and mess with her flowers. She was very involved in Tell City with Mu Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Red Hats Society, Bunko Club, a past member of Tell City Mrs. Jaycees, and a volunteer for the Perry Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Surviving Sheilda is her husband Jim, her daughter Lorri Schmitt Brune (Dave) of Carmel, Indiana, her son Scott Schmitt (Jenny) of Corydon, Indiana. Five grandchildren: Zachary Brune (Claire) Boston, MA, Taylor Brune, Carmel, IN, Nathan Schmitt (Alaney) Columbia, SC, Camryn Schmitt Findlay, OH, and Hunter Schmitt Corydon, IN. Her sisters, Joyce Witte, Momence, IL, Roberta Griggs, Momence, IL and Carol Harrison, Momence, IL, several nephews and nieces and her dear friend Carolyn Craddock.
Sheilda is preceded in death by her father, Robert McCormick her mother Helen (Lott) McCormick and her brothers, James McCormick and Andrew McCormick.
Funeral services will be on Friday, January 21 at 11:00 AM CST at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home, Tell City. Burial will be immediately following at Bates Hill Cemetery, Yankeetown, IN. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 20 from 3:00-7:00 PM and Friday, January 21 from 9:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made in honor of Sheilda to the Perry County Public Library. The family would like to thank the Oakwood Health Campus for the loving care they gave to Sheilda in her last days. We will be forever grateful.
