Shirley Ann (McCoy) Hilgenhold
On Sunday, June 20, 2021 Shirley Ann (McCoy) Hilgenhold (85) passed away at her home surrounded by family after a brief illness from leukemia.
Shirley was born to Myrtle (Cassidy) and Harry McCoy on June 6, 1936 in Troy, Indiana. She has an older sister, Lois James, who still survives and a half brother, Kenny Ernst, who is deceased.
As a child, Shirley’s family owned the McCoy Orchard near Evanston. Shirley was her daddy’s girl and helped on the family farm. She picked peaches, apples and milked cows. She attended elementary school at St. Pius in Troy and Cutler School near Evanston. Shirley graduated from Chrisney High School in 1954. As a senior, she was crowned queen of Chrisney.
On June 1, 1957, she married John Carroll Hilgenhold at St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy, Indiana. They were married for 29 years until his death in 1986.
Together they opened the Singer Sewing Center in Tell City. Shirley worked at the store and raised their family. She dedicated her life in caring for relatives, as they needed assistance.
Shirley was a member of St. Marks Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella and the American Legion Auxillary.
Family was an important part of Shirley’s life and she was blessed with four children: Becky Gibson (Greg), Debbie Richey (Ryan), John Paul (J.P.) Hilgenhold (Pam), and Jeff Hilgenhold (Liz Mills) Her eight grandchildren are Matt Richey (Lori) and Tyler Richey (Debbie Pingel), Brianna Wignall (Gareth), Levi, Luke and Lane Hilgenhold (Emili Stephens), Ava and Aaron Hilgenhold. She has three step grand children: Derek (Leah), Bo (Brittany), and Morgan Gibson (Killian Sottoriva). The six great grandchildren are Stratton, Stella, Stone and Scarlett Richey, Ada & Ruairidh Wignall and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 am Thursday, June 24, 2021 at St. Paul Catholic Church with burial in St. Marks Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:00pm to 7:00pm Wednesday and 8:30am to 9:30am Thursday at the funeral Home.
Contributions can be made to Heart to Heart Hospice or St. Marks Catholic Church.
