Uneda C. East began her final journey to heaven after passing on March 27, 2025.
Uneda was born November 27, 1937,
to Minnie (Dupont) and John Doogs in the town of Ranger in Perry County. She was united in marriage to Paul East on October 25, 1957.
She went to Ft. Worth Texas after high school on the advice of her brother Cletus and began her professional life as a beautician. She continued this work until the birth of her 3rd child. As a stay at home mom, she found a new career in home childcare. This vocation remained a consistent theme for the remainder of her career until retirement.
In order to save money when the kids were young, Uneda took it upon herself to become proficient at sewing and made many of the clothes worn by her family during the 70's (much to the chagrin of her children). Additionally, she loved to read. This proved to be quite a valuable asset when she took up cooking on a grander scale beginning in her late 30s. Hardly was there a cookbook she didn't own or a recipe in a magazine she did not rip out and keep.
Her passions in later years centered on her home in rural Perry County. She loved to set out hummingbird feeders and eagerly awaited the arrival each year of the next charm. During the winter she was a bit of savant with her wood stove. Nothing pleased her more than cheating the Snow Miser by coaxing every last BTU out of a stick of wood.
Surviving Uneda are her children Greg East (and caregiver Debbie Baker), Kimberly S. Hayko/Faulkenberg (wife of Larry Faulkenberg), and John (Ann) East, grandchildren Charles Joseph (CJ) Hayko (Lisa), Matthew (Matt) Hayko, Camie Hayko, Kristin East and Ian East along with numerous great grandchildren.
Uneda was preceded in death by her parents and beloved siblings Mary Ruth King, Leonard Doogs, Cletus Doogs and Helen (Fuchs) Wittman.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Augustine Church (Leopold).
On Uneda's behalf, the family gives special thanks to Pat Doogs, Carol Ann James, and Jeff and Diane Wendel who helped to make it possible for her to continue to live on her own in her last years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, with Fr. Luke Waugh officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until Mass at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Leopold, IN.
